The Mai-Paritu-tae-atu-ki-Turakirae Fisheries Forum (MPtakT) seeks to improve the management and the state of the marine and fisheries environment. The Forum understands there are some tools available to Tāngata Kaitiaki, hapū and iwi to enhance the fishery. The difficulties confronting our Tāngata Kaitiaki continue to grow including; a lack of alignment with traditional tikanga based frameworks to interconnect ki uta ki tai, climate change issues including ocean ph change, environmental degradation, forestry slash during high rainfall events, pollution, destructive land use practices, loss of biodiversity, and degraded fresh water quality entering the marine ecosystem.
